Bolton  frustrated the Blues before the break but David Luiz's fine curled shot put the hosts ahead in the second half.
Didier Drogba's close-range header made it 2-0 and Frank Lampard volleyed a third from Juan Mata's cross.
The visitors, whose best chance saw Nigel Roe-Coker fire wide after the break, remain 19th in the table but are only above Wigan on goal difference.
Nelson Mandela in hospital but 'not in danger'

Former South Africa President Nelson Mandela has undergone a "diagnostic procedure" in hospital, but his life is not in danger, officials say.
Mr Mandela was treated for a long-standing abdominal complaint and is expected to be released from hospital by Monday, a government statement said.
The anti-apartheid icon, 93, is comfortable and "fully conscious", the statement said.
His health has declined in recent years and he rarely appears in public.
As the country's first black president after a history of white minority rule, the BBC's Andrew Harding in Johannesburg says Mr Mandela occupies a special place in the hearts of South Africans.

The statement from President Jacob Zuma's office said: "The doctors are satisfied with his [Mr Mandela's] condition, which they say is consistent with his age.
"He was in good health before admission in hospital but doctors felt the complaint needed a thorough investigation."
The presidency asked for his family to be given privacy.
The statement did not say which hospital he had been admitted to but there are suggestions it was a military hospital in the capital, Pretoria.
Journalists waiting outside one hospital were earlier told to move away or face arrest.
'Epitome of health'
Mr Mandela had returned to Johannesburg last month from his rural home in the Eastern Cape and in January last year, he received treatment in the city's Milpark hospital for a serious chest infection.
"I can assure you that the former president is in good spirits and well," said Mac Maharaj, a spokesman for Mr Zuma.
"This was a long-standing complaint - nothing that cropped up suddenly and needed emergency attention," said Mr Maharaj, who was in prison in Robben Island with Mr Mandela.
"But it is an issue that the doctors treating him felt needed specialist attention, and so arrangements were made accordingly."
He would not confirm reports that Mr Mandela had undergone overnight surgery for a hernia, and appealed for "co-operation from the public and the media so we manage this thing properly".
The statesman's eldest granddaughter said she was not immediately concerned about his health.
"I don't see it as a big thing. When I saw him on Wednesday, he was in good spirits, in perfect health, and the epitome of health really for a man of his age," Ndileka Mandela told the AFP news agency.
"Grandad rebounded from his illness last year. I don't see any reason why this should be any different."

Bobby Brown Explains Why He Left Whitney Houston’s Funeral

spl bobby brown 1 jef ssm 120218 wblog Bobby Brown Explains Why He Left Whitney Houstons Funeral
Bobby Brown left Whitney Houston’s funeral at Newark, N.J.’s New Hope Baptist Church shortly after the service began.
In a statement put out by his representative, he explained, “My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston.  We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions.
“I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move,” he said.  “Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi-Kristina. In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honor Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how.”

Mexico's president to U.S.: 'No more weapons'

Mexico President Felipe Calderon has sought the help of the United States to stop the brutal drug violence in his country.
Mexico President Felipe Calderon has sought the help of the United States to stop the brutal drug violence in his country.

(CNN) -- Mexico's president called on U.S. officials to stop gun trafficking across the border Thursday, saying the move would be the best thing Americans could do to stop brutal drug violence.
"The criminals have become more and more vicious in their eagerness to spark fear and anxiety in society," President Felipe Calderon said. "One of the main factors that allows criminals to strengthen themselves is the unlimited access to high-powered weapons, which are sold freely, and also indiscriminately, in the United States of America."
Speaking in Ciudad Juarez, the border city across from El Paso, Texas, that has become Mexico's murder capital, Calderon said a dramatic increase in violence in Mexico was directly connected with the 2004 expiration of the U.S. assault weapons ban.
The message was familiar. The Mexican president has asked U.S. lawmakers to renew the ban on assault weapons before, most notably in a 2010 speech to the U.S. Congress.
But the backdrop Thursday was dramatically different. Calderon stood in front of a massive new sign, constructed with tons of decommissioned arms. "NO MORE WEAPONS," the sign said -- in English. Americans on the other side of the border are the intended audience, Calderon said.
"From here, from Ciudad Juarez, on the border of Mexico and the United States, we say, 'No more weapons. No more weapons to Mexico,'" he said.
Thursday's speech came as a U.S. Congressional inquiry continues into "Operation Fast and Furious," an operation run by U.S. federal agents. Authorities have said the operation was intended to track the flow of illegally purchased American guns to the Mexican cartels -- but in practice, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allowed so-called straw buyers to take weapons across the border without being intercepted.
Calderon praised U.S. President Barack Obama's efforts to deal with the "very sensitive issue" of assault weapons, noting that officials in his administration had done more than previous leaders to investigate and block illegal weapons trafficking to Mexico.
"They have taken positive steps, but we all know that unfortunately it is not enough, and we cannot stop here," he said.
Out of 140,000 weapons Mexican authorities have seized since Calderon declared a crackdown on cartels at the beginning of his presidency, 84,000 were high-powered assault weapons, Calderon said.
More than 47,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico since December 2006, according to government statistics.
During his Thursday speech, Calderon looked toward the border and said he had a message for Americans.
"We need your help to stop this violence. We need you to reduce your consumption of drugs and to dramatically reduce the flow of money to criminal organizations in Mexico," he said. "But beyond the topic of drugs, the best way that you, the American people, can help reduce the violence in Mexico is through legislation that has already been in force in the United States, blocking the inhumane weapons trafficking into our country."

Bollywood's Amitabh Bachchan may undergo more surgery

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who had successful abdominal surgery last week, has tweeted that he may have to undergo a second operation.

Amitabh BachchanThe 69-year-old actor, who has a history of abdominal ailments, was operated on at a hospital in the western city of Mumbai last week.
He was expected to be released his week. But Bachchan now says it is "going to be a long stay".
Bachchan has acted in more than 180 Indian films over 40 years.
He remains India's most popular actor.
Bachchan's family had said that last week's surgery had gone well and "everything was normal".
But late on Thursday, the star tweeted: "Some more tests... more unpronounceable medication... and... another visit to the OT... operation theater! Going to be a long stay."
"I have no idea now how long this will take, but it does look as though it will be long... thank you for your prayers and love...!!"
Bachchan tweeted he was refraining from giving "greater details about my condition," and said he would inform people "whenever there is some important procedure".
Bachchan had surgery for an intestinal condition at the same hospital in 2005. Three years later, he was admitted to a hospital with abdominal pains.
The actor suffered a near fatal injury during the shooting of an action scene on the set of a film in 1982 and was critically ill for several months.
Last year Bachchan returned as the celebrity host of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire - one of the most watched shows on Indian television.
He is also to make his Hollywood debut in a new film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, due to be released late this year.

Rio carnival street parade draws record numbers

Revellers celebrate carnival at a Rio parade
The revellers captured the spirit of the carnival

One of Rio de Janeiro's oldest and most popular carnival street parties has attracted a record 2.2 million revellers, police say.
The Cordao da Bola Preta parade is famous for attracting a diverse crowd, spanning all ages.
For the first time in its 93-year history, the event allowed electric sound systems and reversed its normal route.
Police said that despite the large crowds, the event had been peaceful.
Dressed as the cartoon character Asterix, Elson de Deus, 65, told Brazilian newspaper O Globo he had been attending the parade ever since he was 13.
This year, he had taken his son along to the parade to continue the family tradition.
Elizete Vieira, 77, said she had waited for four hours to secure her spot in the parade.
Denisa Chagas told the AFP news agency she liked the Bola Preta parade because it "brings everybody together, people from all districts and neighbouring towns".
Reflecting the name of Bola Preta, or Black Dot, many revellers wore clothes with black polka dots on a white background.
Others dressed as their sports heroes or donned wigs and tutus.
Police said they had detained 15 people for urinating in the street, but that there had been no serious incidents.
Some 400 street parties have been scheduled for the Rio carnival, but organisers say the Bola Preta parade, which dates back to 1918, is the most traditional.
Team badge of Birmingham CityTeam badge of Chelsea    Chelsea vs Birmingham
CHELSEA VS BIRMINGHAM - DREW 1-1

The Chelsea manager cut a forlorn figure on the touchline as his lacklustre side left the Stamford Bridge pitch to a chorus of boos and chants of support for former manager Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea were woeful before the interval and the visitors deservedly led through David Murphy's close-range strike.
The hosts squandered a glorious chance to level when Juan Mata's penalty was well saved by Colin Doyle.
But the home side improved and earned a replay when Sturridge headed in Branislav Ivanovic's teasing cross.
Winless in four, already out of the Premier League title race and in serious danger of failing to qualify for the Champions League, Chelsea's season was already in the doldrums.
Desperately needing to make FA Cup progress before their season-defining European tie with Napoli on Tuesday was not the brave new world envisaged by owner Roman Abramovich at the start of the campaign.
But a convincing win - and equally convincing display - could have been the precursor to better times and provided a confidence-boosting platform.
The reality, against a spirited and superbly organised Birmingham, who are now unbeaten in 14 games, was very different.
The first half was far too typical of Chelsea in the past two months - slow to start, ponderous in midfield, sloppy in defence and only a threat in attack through the searing pace of Sturridge and inventiveness of Mata.
Birmingham made the most of the Premier League side's slow start to go ahead when Murphy netted after the defence dithered following a well-worked near-post corner.
But while the noisy away Blues contingent were still taunting the home support and suggesting that Villas-Boas would be "getting sacked in the morning", Chelsea had a wonderful chance to instantly draw level.
An incisive move on the edge of the box saw Ramires wriggle free only to be felled by Wade Elliott.
Mata, who had scored in both of Chelsea's FA Cup wins this season, opted to go low but his effort was not particularly well struck and was saved by the excellent Doyle.
Sturridge then had a decent claim for a second spot-kick and the home side began to dominate possession and create chances.
David Luiz had a 25-yard free-kick pushed way by Doyle, and Sturridge was within a whisker of levelling with a vicious, dipping volley from the edge of the box.
Chelsea were vastly improved after the interval, mainly thanks to a change in formation that saw Didier Drogba replace the anonymous Fernando Torres and John Mikel Obi sacrificed in favour of Salomon Kalou.
Up until then Birmingham's packed midfield had deprived Chelsea time and space with the tireless running of striker Adam Rooney particularly inspirational.
But the home side started to dominate possession, territory and chances.
Sturridge restored parity just after the hour when his beautifully guided header, from Ivanovic's cross, nestled in the far corner.
They then went close to taking the lead, with Mata shooting wide after a controlling a long ball forward and Raul Meireles firing in a shot that took a deflection before bouncing up and over the bar.
Redmond had Birmingham's only chances after the interval, shooting over following a clever corner routine and fluffing a wonderful late opportunity as he bore down on goal.

New Delhi: To give the discerning viewers an experience like never before, Kings XI Punjab has tied up with Indraprastha All India Sports Foundation for presenting India’s first ever cricket based reality show.

The show aims at providing a platform for budding cricketers to showcase their talent in front of millions of viewers.
There will be a total of 8 teams from Bihar/Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore/Hyderabad, Haryana comprising 15 players each. The greats of the cricketing world would mentor each team after selecting them from amongst thousands of participants from each region.
To ensure that each team gets the best captain, the mentors will shortlist three captains per team, who would undergo various tests to judge their leadership & stress management skills, decision making ability, endurance capacity, out of box thinking and ‘to do’ attitude. The fate of these players will later rest in the hands of the public/viewers, who can choose their favourite captain out of the three for each team through national voting. In this way every team would get a captain who would further compete to emerge as the ‘Super Captain’, chosen by the mentors.

Since the reality show is being powered by Kings XI Punjab, a number of players from the franchisee shall also form part of the proceedings. These players would render their view points on player selection, ability, tasks, game strategy, etc.
Speaking on the initiative, Col. Arvinder Singh, COO, Kings XI Punjab said, “Kings XI Punjab has always been at the forefront of unearthing fresh cricketing talent. Our association with the venture aims to provide these young guns with a platform to perform.  I wish the participants all the very best and am sanguine that we should be able to spot ‘real talent’ whom we shall help groom for their future cricketing endeavors.”

The team which emerges as the winner would be awarded with the National Trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh. And that’s not all, as the top 10 cricketers whose performance would be outstanding in the entire tournament, would get a chance to get training with Kings XI Punjab players and an opportunity to play first class cricket.

Stanford baseball opens with home win over No. 10 Vanderbilt

On the plane ride home after last season ended a step shy of the College World Series, the blueprints for the next baseball season were drawn up by Stanford coach Mark Marquess. The foundation was set, but the Cardinal had to find a replacement behind the plate. Miles above the ground, Marquess approached infielder Eric Smith about shifting positions to catcher.
The move paid immediate dividends in the season opener Friday night at Klein Field in Sunken Diamond as Smith not only displayed chemistry with ace Mark Appel, the converted catcher also hit an inside-the-park home run in No. 2 Stanford's 8-3 victory over No. 10 Vanderbilt.
"Maybe in Little League when there weren't any fences," Smith said was the last time he might have hit an inside-the-park shot. "I sure was tired after that one and then I had to go back and catch."
Stanford led 5-0 after three innings and Appel, the top draft prospect according to Baseball America, didn't allow a hit until a leadoff double in the top of the fifth. The 6-foot-2 right-hander was lifted after seven innings and 103 pitches. He allowed one run on two hits. walking two and striking out five.
"If he was missing, he was just missing by a little bit," said Smith, who found out he would start roughly 15 minutes before the game. "Everything was close to the plate, so you had to react to every pitch. He was getting his change-up over, his slider over. And when you get those three pitches, especially
throwing 95, 96, 97 miles per hour, it's tough to hit."
After a 1-2-3 top of the first, Stanford third baseman Stephen Piscotty turned on an inside fastball for a solo home run with two outs. Designated hitter Christian Griffiths, who missed last season with a shoulder injury, hit one farther into the trees on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the second. The Cardinal hit 27 home runs in 57 games last season.
Stanford rallied for three runs in the third inning and second baseman Lonnie Kauppila came up with a web gem in the top of the fourth by taking a stab at a liner zooming over his head.
Vanderbilt starter Kevin Ziomek lasted just 3 1/3 innings, but reliever Brian Miller was able to escape a jam in the bottom of the fourth by stranding both inherited runners. Miller wasn't so lucky in the next frame as Smith skipped a shot to the right-center gap that rolled to the fence and became Stanford's first inside-the-park job since Cord Phelps in March of 2008.
"The good thing is he ran hard out of the box," Stanford coach Mark Marquess said. "Normally I don't think he hits the ball and thinks it's going to be a triple with his speed. He's not a blazer, but it was a good job by (third base) coach (Dean) Stotz sending him."
The Cardinal made it 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth, but it could have been more. With the bases loaded and two outs, Kauppila's infield single drove in Jake Stewart, but Brian Ragira (who went 3-for-4) was gunned down at the plate on a dubious call.
Left-fielder Tyler Gaffney, who scored eight touchdowns in the fall, extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a double over the third base bag on the first pitch he saw in the eighth and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Stanford's attack consisted of 14 hits, five walks and three hit batters. All nine hitters recorded at least one hit except for right fielder Austin Wilson, who drew a pair of walks.
"It's going to be a fun year," Appel said. "We're going to put up some runs this year and hopefully the pitching will continue to be pretty good."
Vanderbilt used four singles to score a pair of runs in the ninth off Stanford's Dean McArdle.
The teams will complete their three-game series with 1 p.m. contests today and Sunday.

BIC: 'Bahrain Grand Prix will go ahead

The Bahrain Grand Prix was due to be the opening race of the 2011 season, before being canceled.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was due to be the opening race of the 2011 season, before being canceled.

Bahrain's Formula One organizers insist that the Gulf state's grand prix race will go ahead as planned in April, despite recent fears that its political situation has not improved.
A group of British peers appealed for the race to be called off in an open letter to The Times newspaper last week, saying that the same problems of social instability prevail as when last year's event was called off.
However, a spokesman for the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) insisted on Tuesday -- the anniversary of the "Day of Rage" protests against the ruling monarchy -- that the April 22 event will take place.
"The calendar was confirmed for 2012 at the end of last year and Bahrain has a place on that calendar," the spokesman told CNN under condition of anonymity.
He said motorsport's governing body, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), had been in regular contact with the BIC.
"We are entirely confident that the race can be and will be an excellent event. The FIA has been taking the situation seriously for a long time," he said.
"Jean Todt (FIA president) has been visiting Bahrain himself, keeping in constant contact. The FIA has said that there is no reason why the grand prix should not go ahead."
The spokesman said although there had been continuing problems in Bahrain over the past 12 months, the riots in the main city of Manama were smaller than those which took place in Britain's capital London last August.
"When I was out there two or three weeks ago it was very quiet ... There is no doubt that there have been some protests," he said.
"There's no doubt that there have been some small riots, nothing like on the scale that we saw in London. There have been some public order disturbances, but on the kind of scale that Britain has endured many times."
Bahrain is scheduled to be the fourth race in the 2012 F1 season, which starts on March 18 with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
The spokesman said the BIC is "absolutely confident" that the Bahrain circuit will be safe for the drivers and teams.
"When it comes to being in and around the track, the drivers and the teams will be extremely safe. Absolutely, totally confident about that."

Tiger seeks 'home' success as he announces PGA Tour triple-header

Former world No. 1 Tiger Woods last won a tour-sanctioned tournament in November 2009.
Former world No. 1 Tiger Woods last won a tour-sanctioned tournament in November 2009.

Tiger Woods is looking to the familiarity of home as he continues his search for a first full-field tournament win in over two years.
The former world No. 1 has announced he will play three PGA Tour events in the next month, including the Honda Classic in Florida for the first time in his professional career.
The tournament is held in Palm Beach Gardens, which is near the 14-time major champion's home on Jupiter Island -- where he moved last year after his 2010 breakup with ex-wife Elin Nordegren following the scandal about his extramarital affairs.
"I've heard great things about the Honda Classic," Woods told his website. "Now that I live there, I want to play whenever possible."
He missed the cut as a 17-year-old amateur in 1993 when the tournament -- which since 2007 has benefited the children's charity of golf legend Jack Nicklaus -- was played at the Weston Hills course.
"Jack's involvement in the tournament and the benefits to the local community are also important," Woods said of the March 1-4 event.
Its current venue, the PGA National, is rated as one of the toughest courses on the U.S. circuit.
"We obviously are thrilled to have Tiger Woods play," tournament director Ken Kennerly told the tour's website. "We have worked hard for five years to make this one of the premier events on the PGA Tour.
"This is a testament to where the tournament has come, and a testament to Honda's 31 years as the longest-standing sponsor on the PGA Tour."
World No. 18 Woods, who slipped out of the top 50 last year, will also line up at next week's WGC Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona next week -- an event he has won three times.
After the Honda Classic, Woods will stay in Florida for the WGC Cadillac Championship a week later, where he has tasted victory on a record eight occasions.
Woods will be in illustrious company at Doral, with world No. 1 Luke Donald and 2011 U.S. Open winner Rory McIlroy both confirming their attendance on Tuesday.
The American has shown signs of returning to form in recent times, finishing tied for third at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship last month and winning the Chevron World Challenge event he hosts in December.
"I'm excited about my start and look forward to keep building," said the 36-year-old, whose last tour-sanctioned win was in Australia in November 2009.
"I've made great strides from last year and hopefully all my hard work will pay off with a victory soon."

Manchester United's Mexican striker Javier Hernandez celebrates his goal against Dutch side Ajax

Rivals Manchester City and Manchester United prospered in the unfamiliar territory of the Europa League as both recorded away victories in the first leg of their last-32 ties.
English Premier League leaders Manchester City had to rely on an Alvaro Pereira own goal and a late strike from Argentina striker Sergio Aguero to seal a 2-1 win at Portuguese champions Porto.
United, the current English champions, won 2-0 over Ajax in the Netherlands thanks to goals from England winger Ashley Young and Mexico striker Javier Hernandez.
Both sides were making their first appearance in Europe's second tier competition after being knocked out of the European Champions League before the turn of the year.
United, two points behind City in the EPL, are now firmly in the driving seat ahead of next week's second leg at Old Trafford.
Manager Alex Ferguson, who has led his side to two Champions League titles during his 25-year tenure at the club, told reporters: "I'm delighted with the scoreline.

Japan's emperor undergoes successful cardiac bypass
Japanese public broadcast NHK said the 78-year-old emperor was recovering after the five-hour procedure
Tokyo -- Japan's 78-year-old emperor was recovering Saturday from a successful cardiac bypass surgery at the University of Tokyo Hospital, according to Japanese public broadcast NHK.
Emperor Akihito's surgery lasted nearly five hours, NHK reported.
Akihito, a ceremonial but revered figure in Japan, has suffered from poor health in recent months and has been hospitalized several times.
Tsugunomiya Akihito was born on December 23, 1933 in Tokyo to Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako Kuniat as their fifth child and first son.
According to Japanese legend, he is a direct descendant of Japan's first emperor Jimmu, circa 660 BC. Akihito means "shining pinnacle of virtue," and Tsugunomiya means "prince of the august succession and enlightened benevolence."
On November 12, 1990, Akihito ascended to the Chrysanthemum Throne -- the oldest hereditary monarchy in the world -- as the 125th Emperor of Japan, one year and ten months after the death of Emperor Hirohito.
The position, per Japan's constitution, is defined as "the symbol of the state and of the unity of the people." That said, the office's involvement in day-to-day government affairs tends to be minimal.
Akihito broke from precedent following Japan's epic 9.0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami last year, when he gave a historic, televised speech on March 16. In it, he encouraged citizens to put forth their "best effort to save all suffering people" and he applauded his countrymen's handling of the crisis.

    Calcutta goes blue

The eastern Indian city of Calcutta is to be painted blue, a local minister has said.
Government buildings, flyovers, roadside railings, and taxis should be painted a shade of light blue, a minister in the ruling Trinamul Congress government said.
Owners of private buildings will be also be requested to paint them in the same colour, the minister said.
The capital of West Bengal, Calcutta is home to more than 14 million people.
"Our leader [chief minister of West Bengal] Mamata Banerjee has decided that the theme colour of the city will be sky blue because the motto of the new government is 'the sky is the limit'," Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim told The Indian Express newspaper.
"From now on, all government buildings, whenever they are re-painted, will be done in sky blue. The owners of private buildings will also be requested to follow the same colour pattern. The necessary government orders will be issued soon."
The colour of the city's famous yellow taxis are going to be changed to light blue and white, while a number of famous landmarks are likely to be repainted too, reports say.
    'Cosmetic change'
The owners of private buildings will have to pay from their own funds to repaint their premises, the minister said.

"Blue is a beautiful colour and is also soothing for the eyes," Calcutta mayor Sobhan Chatterjee said.

The announcement has been criticised by opposition parties and sections of the media.
A local Congress party spokesman said the government was "preoccupying itself with non-essential issues".
The city's Telegraph newspaper said the "notion of a cosmetic change is taken to unprecedented heights of innovation by the idea" of painting Calcutta blue.
"Finding the right colour combination is undoubtedly the crucial first step in making a city safer, healthier, cleaner and generally more user-friendly for its inhabitants," the newspaper wrote in an editorial.
"It could, with as little doubt, sort out its core problems - chaotic health care, inability to implement pollution control norms, arsenic in the water, archaic sewers and garbage disposal, bad roads, killer buses for public transport, an airport falling apart and beyond dismal, priceless paintings rotting away in public art galleries, to name a few."
Other Indian cities have colour-based themes.
The northern Indian city of Jaipur is famously dubbed the Pink City after its terracotta-colour dwellings.
In 2006, Aurangabad, a crime-infested city in the state of Bihar, was painted pink in order to uplift, according to authorities, its sagging morale and spirit.

Mervyn Westfield jail term supported by ICC

The International Cricket Council have backed the four-month jail sentence imposed on Mervyn Westfield.
The 23-year-old former Essex bowler was found guilty of spot-fixing last week and has been suspended from cricket.
"While the ICC takes no pleasure from anyone being sent to jail, it is a decision of the court we support," chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.
"I believe it would act as a deterrent to anyone who is tempted to sully the good name of cricket."
Westfield pleaded guilty last month to one count of accepting or obtaining a corrupt payment to bowl in a way that would allow the scoring of runs in a Pro40 match against Durham in September 2009.
It is believed he had helped to arrange for 12 runs to be scored in the first over of the match but in fact there were only 10.
The fast bowler has been told he will serve half the term in prison and a confiscation order was made for the £6,000 he was paid to influence proceedings.
The England and Wales Cricket Board Cricket Discipline Commission chairman Gerard Elias, QC, imposed an interim suspension pending a disciplinary panel hearing.
Westfield's former club Essex, who released him during the 2010 season, said: "This is a very sad day for all at the club.
"It is going to take a while for us to fully digest the comments of the judge, but as the ECB Cricket Discipline Committee has served Mervyn Westfield with an interim suspension as a result of his sentencing earlier today, the club is unable to comment on any aspect of this case."
ICC chief Lorgat added: "The ICC operates a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and will use everything within its power to ensure that any corrupt activity within the game is comprehensively investigated and, where possible, robustly prosecuted. We have always stated that we will follow every possible avenue to ensure the integrity of cricket is protected.
"In November 2010, the ICC Board required all members to implement a domestic anti-corruption code which mirrors that of the ICC and the fact that this offence took place in a domestic competition is a timely reminder for us never to be complacent."
"In the context of domestic vigilance, the ICC acknowledges the commendable steps taken by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in setting up their domestic anti-corruption ACCESS Unit."
During the verdict the court was told by Westfield's defence team that former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria had been a go-between in the deception.
Current Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, in Dubai preparing for Saturday's third one-day international against England, said the team were alarmed by the developments, which comes barely four months after three of its players - Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir - were jailed for a plot to bowl no-balls in a Test match.
"The team is concentrating on their cricket and we want these things to stop and let us focus on cricket, so it's really, really not good for us," Misbah said.

    Manchester City report 'racist' chants

Manchester City have lodged an official complaint to Uefa after alleged racial abuse to some of their players during Thursday's Europa League game at Porto.

City won 2-1 at the Estadio do Drago, but after the game the club revealed that Mario Balotelli had mentioned to officials about chants from the stands.
Team-mate Yaya Toure told Sky Sports News: "I heard something.
"That's why we like the Premier League, it never happens there. Maybe other countries don't expect black players."
Tournament organisers Uefa said they were still waiting for reports from their match delegates, which are usually received one or two days after each match, before deciding whether to take any action.
BBC Radio 5 live reported that, at half-time, Manchester City media officers had informed them that they suspected that midfielder Yaya Toure and striker Balotelli had been the subject of racial abuse from certain home sections of the crowd.
In the 78th minute, when City substituted Balotelli, whistling and booing reached a crescendo.
After the game it was revealed that Balotelli had told a club official he had been subject to racial abuse from the stands.
In the post-match press conference, Mancini insisted that the chanting had not disturbed him.
"I didn't hear the noise, because I was concentrating on the game," he said.
